Morley Library
Painesville, Ohio
Morley Library opened a new 4-story, 60,000 sq. ft. facility replacing a smaller, outdated one. Tec Inc. completed the electrical, mechanical, plumbing, technology and lighting design for the project. Featured within the building program is an energy efficient lighting design utilizing a variety of standard fixtures that enhance the architectural features and provide excellent visual comfort. Lighting was designed with visual tasks and building finishes in mind; controls are completely automated. Stacks are illuminated on the horizontal and vertical planes using a design standard developed by Tec. A state-of-the-art technology system featuring a fiber-optic backbone connecting each floor and utilizing the latest cabling and networking standards, compartmentalized per floor, was incorporated throughout the building. Significant wireless technology capability has also been provided. The mechanical system design is environmentally friendly. One of the first systems of its kind designed for a public library application, he chilled water system utilizes a lower chilled water temperature and greater temperature drop in the system to reduce the air handlers, pumps, piping and ductwork sizes, while maintaining comfort. This approach translates into reduced operating and maintenance costs, as well as a significant savings in initial construction cost. The design of Morley Library makes it the centerpiece of downtown Painesville where it blends with the character of government buildings around the Square.
