The $2.5 million project was funded by an endowment from the late Virginia W. Martin will house an expanded genealogy and local history department, a maker space, a new computer lab and several small meeting rooms. Virginia Wheeler Martin, the center’s benefactor, has included a collection of about 140 boxes filled with genealogical magazines, family photos, yearbooks, county histories, cookbooks, written personal histories and personal mementos. These will become the cornerstone of the Virginia W. Martin Family History and Learning Center.

The library plans include a professional photography station with a lightbox, a large-format printer, a video and music conversion station, and a reorganized yearbook collection. The genealogy room will have its own enclosed space. The new meeting rooms will allow small groups of six to 10 people to gather around to work on research together or hold a meeting. The new maker space will allow people with interests in computing or technology, to gather and work on projects while sharing ideas, equipment, and knowledge. This space will incorporate a 3D printer to support local schools’ STEM and STEAM projects and provide technology for small business owners to market their products, by allowing them to take professional photos and upload them to the Internet.

Tec provided mechanical electrical, and technology design services and coordination for the new requirements of the upgraded technology and spaces that incorporate internet access. HVAC system adjustments were necessary for the addition of enclosed meeting spaces and for the changes in capacity.
