This CM at Risk project consisted of a Program of Requirements, upgrade, and replacement of outdated fire alarm notification systems to current NFPA Standards to eight buildings on the main campus of The Ohio State University. The buildings included were Bricker Hall, Biotechnology Support Facility, Dreese Laboratory, Dulles Hall, Journalism Building, Lazenby Hall, Pressey Hall, and Ramseyer Hall. A thorough and detailed survey of each building was conducted, along with documentation and evaluation for new and efficient replacement of fire alarm fixtures, current technology, and addressable / programmable ADA compliant system. The new systems include a new microprocessor-based control panel, new smoke/heat detectors, and new audible/visual notification appliances in all public areas installed per ADA. Architectural design was also included on the project. Three buildings required historic preservation, while four others included additional rooms. Full building hazardous material assessment and abatement design was performed for two of the eight buildings, Pressey Hall and Lazenby Hall. Budget constraints limited the construction to just five of the eight buildings: Bricker Hall Biotechnology Support Facility, Dreese Lab, Lazenby Hall and Pressey Hall. Additionally, four of the buildings will also have an Emergency Responder Radio System (ERRS) designed and installed to enhance First Responder’s communication.
