Heritage Crossing Meridian Assisted Living & Memory Care

The Heritage Crossing Assisted Living & Memory Care Facility is a new 79,379 SF sq. ft. two-story structure on a green site. The community focuses on hospitality rather than sterile institutional settings to create an inviting residential design embodying the values of the Akron community with architectural features including barn doors, a gambrel roof, and wrought iron light fixtures. The open floor plan within the memory care unit provides caregivers a direct sightline from their desk for operational safety and staffing efficiency. The facility encourages resident engagement with the inclusion of activity areas, sensory gardens, life stations, lounge areas, a bistro, and a front porch. To promote residence independence and provide the highest level of care, the team implemented resident alert products, electronic medication administration record keeping, and WIFI. When complete, the campus will offer 68 assisted living units and 30 memory care rooms. Tec provided MEP engineering and technology and fire protection design services under a design, bid, build delivery model. Tec provided electrical engineering to complete lighting and lighting controls as well as new general purpose receptacles and specific power requirements for kitchen equipment and laundry. To meet the requirements for an I-2 Use Group, an emergency generator power system was required for critical loads. Since this was a new building on a green site, Tec coordinated the electric utility requirements for power, communication and data services. Also included in our electrical engineering services were voice and data pathways, cabling and terminations as well as fire alarm system design, and building security. Mechanical engineering included the HVAC system design for the various building areas. The basis of design was a combination of PTAC’s, VPTAC’s and split AHU’s with terminal boxes with local thermostat control. Kitchen, laundry and toilet room exhaust was also part of Tec’s design. Design of Direct Digital Controls (DDC) Temperature controls where appropriate were included. Plumbing system design included storm and sanitary sewers within the building, domestic water service from a connection point approximately five feet beyond the building foundation. Domestic hot and cold water distribution throughout the building as well as domestic hot water boilers and various plumbing fixture specifications are included. Plumbing connections for the kitchen and laundry equipment were included. A performance specification for the fire suppression sprinkler system along with the design on the incoming fire water service completed our scope of services.
